US reportedly orders Chinese state media Xinhua News Agency and CCTV branch CGTN to register as foreign agents
BEIJING – China says it has reached out to the U.S. over reports that the Department of Justice has ordered two top Chinese state-run media outlets to register with the government as foreign agents. The Wall Street Journal said Tuesday that the Xinhua News Agency and CGTN, the international arm of state broadcaster CCTV, had been told in recent weeks to register as foreign agents amid growing scrutiny of efforts by overseas media organizations to influence U.S. public opinion. In November 2017, Russian state-funded television network RT registered with the U.S.
Justice Department as a foreign agent following pressure from Washington. U.S. intelligence agencies allege that RT served as a Kremlin tool to meddle in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Russia’s parliament responded quickly to the move by Washington, approving a bill allowing the government to register international media outlets as foreign agents.
CCTV police officer ‘chased himself’ after being mistaken for burglar
The junior officer, who has not been named, was monitoring an area hit by a series of burglaries in an unnamed market town in the country’s south. He failed to realise that it was actually the plain-clothed officer he was watching on the screen, according to details leaked to an industry magazine. The details of the operation blunder were leaked to Police magazine, which is published by the Police Federation, this week by a senior officer who witnessed the embarrassing incident. Sussex police were unable to provide further details of the incident, the officers involved or where it occurred. It was at this point that the sergeant entered the control room where he recognised the junior officer.
On Tuesday night a spokesman for the force, which has about 3000 officers, could not provide any further details on the operation due to a lack of information.

Aston University uses CCTV to identify ‘disruptive’ students
An email sent from a member of senior academic staff from Aston University warned that students causing problems will be identified and disciplined following a number of incidents during lectures. Sky News understands a video has circulated around the university which shows a student going onto the stage area of the hall. The disruption was not linked to the content of the lectures, which were part of a business course. More from UK. The university’s website states that it scores 88% in student satisfaction and is 45th out of 131 UK universities, according to the complete university guide 2019.
Fees for UK and EU students this year are £9,250.
