Dramatic CCTV captures moment Leicester owner’s helicopter spirals out of control

Harrowing CCTV has captured the moment Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s helicopter crashed seconds after take-off before crashing and killing all five passengers. Footage shows the billionaire’s helicopter taking off from the King Power Stadium in a seemingly routine manner before it appears to malfunction above a line of trees. It then spins out of control mid-air before hurtling towards the ground and bursting into flames. The billionaire perished with his assistant Kaveporn Punpare and Nursara Suknamai, a Thai beauty queen turned PA, when the aircraft spiralled into a ‘dead man’s curve’ when its tail rotor apparently failed. The helicopter’s hero pilot Eric Swaffer and his girlfriend co-pilot Izabela Lechowicz also died – but potentially saved hundreds of lives by crashing away from the crowds of fans who saw Leicester play West Ham.

Today the Air Accident Investigation Branch [AAIB] confirmed they have found the aircraft’s black box recorder and will be forensically examining the wreckage and crash site before moving it to Farnborough, Hampshire, by Friday. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is carrying out an investigation into what caused the Agusta Westland AW169 helicopter to crash a few hours after the Foxes’ 1-1 result against West Ham. It is believed to be the first accident involving an AW169 aircraft. In a statement the AAIB said: ‘We recovered the digital flight data recorder on Sunday afternoon and one of our inspectors travelled back to Farnborough with the recorder the same evening. 3 minutes to read. 4 minutes to read 3 minutes to read.

Toyah Cordingley: Police release CCTV in hunt for witnesses who saw Cairns woman in hours before her death

Police have released CCTV of Toyah Cordingley at a popular market in Cairns hours before she was killed, in the hope of jogging the memories of people who may have seen her. The 24-year-old’s body was found on Monday last week at Wangetti Beach, north of the city. Police believe she was killed at the beach on Sunday October 21 while taking her dog for a walk. The video shows Ms Cordingley crossing at the Sheridan Street intersection at about 12:40pm that day. Detective Inspector Sonia Smith said detectives released the footage because they still wanted to hear from anyone who saw Ms Cordingley at Rusty’s Market on Sunday and who had not yet spoken to police.

Police also released an image of the 2009 light blue Mitsubishi Lancer sedan she was driving, which was found parked in the southern car park at Wangetti Beach on Sunday afternoon. Anyone who saw the car on October 21 between noon and 7:00pm is being asked to contact police. Police have also been seeking information from a family thought to have left the beach at 1:30pm that day. Inspector Smith said police were particularly looking for information about Ms Cordingley’s movements shortly before her death early that afternoon.
