Home security is a worry for many Britons, with burglaries on the rise.

Now, a new report has revealed the area in the UK with the highest number of burglaries.

The report was conducted by security lighting company The Solar Centre, and shows how many burglaries are taking place across the country.

West Yorkshire was named as the UK’s worst area for burglaries, with 20.75 break-ins per 1,000 households.

According to the data, the most stolen item in these West Yorkshire burglaries is jewellery.

Coming in close second to West Yorkshire was Greater Manchester, with 19.91 burglaries per 1,000 homes. The most stolen items were also jewellery.

Behind Greater Manchester came the West Midlands, where motor vehicles were most at risk, and South Yorkshire, where most burglaries involved money.

The data showed that you are shocking six times more likely to be burgled in West Yorkshire than in Devon and Cornwall.

The worst region for residential burglaries is Yorkshire and the Humber with an average burglary rate of 15.42 per 1,000 households, followed by the North East (13.22 per 1,000 households)

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Wales was the lowest region for residential burglaries with an average of 8.13 burglaries per 1,000 households.

This was followed closely by the South West, with only 8.46 per 1,000 households.

Safest areas were Devon and Cornwall, with 3.63 burglaries per 1,000 homes and Dyfed-Powys, with just 4.55.

Other areas on the lowest break-ins list included North Yorkshire, Sussex, Norfolk and Cheshire.

This was followed closely by the South West, with only 8.46 per 1,000 households.

The research found that across the whole of England and Wales, Jewellery is the most stolen item, in seven percent of areas.

However, in the North East, machinery and tools were always the most stolen item (22 percent of areas).

With the clocks going back last weekend, the amount of break-ins in the UK is set to rise.

New research by ADT has revealed that the Christmas period is when most break-ins happen in Britain.

The study revealed that nearly three-quarters (71 per cent) of burglaries in the UK take place during the darker months of the year.

The clocks went back on Sunday 28 October, and ADT has found out that two-thirds of Britons (60 per cent) felt more vulnerable to break-ins.
